Headache and Migraine Treatment

If you suffer from head/neck pain or especially chronic neck pain and migraines you should look into an Occipital Nerve Block. An occipital nerve block is an injection of a steroid or other medication around the greater and lesser occipital nerves that are located on the back of the head just above the neck area.

This procedure reduces the inflammation and swelling of tissue around the occipital nerves. This, in turn, reduces pain, and other symptoms caused by inflammation or irritation of the nerves and surrounding structures. Typically, headaches over the back of the head, including certain types of tension headaches and migraine headaches, may respond to occipital nerve blocks.

Other Headache/ Migraine Treatments

PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) and Botox both have healing properties for pain management. Botox injections are best known for the ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles but Botox injections have also been proven to be effective in treating migraine and tension-type headaches. It is also a muscle relaxant that has been shown to relieve muscle related pain and improve range of motion.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a treatment used for a variety of common orthopedic conditions. PRP is a concentration of platelet cells taken from your blood, and these platelets have growth factors that help in the healing process of chronic injuries. Growth factors are chemicals that signal the body to initiate a healing response. By injecting PRP into areas of an injury, the hope is to optimize your body's ability to heal the chronic conditions. PRP contains a high concentration of platelets, other blood cells important in healing, and growth factors. Don’t keep living in pain. There are lots of options now to relieve your pain.
